In the deep canyons category, the magazine recommends Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Colo.; Mokelumne Canyon, Calif.; Green River Gorge, Wash.; and Pleiades Canyon, Utah.
In the lost coasts category, Outside mentions North Core Banks, N.C.; Padre Island National Seashore, Texas; Shi Shi Beach, Wash.; Cape Cod National Seashore, Mass.; Sinkyone Wilderness State Park, Calif.; and Milolii Beach, Hawaii.
